What is HoloTrek?

Holotrek is a text based, interactive virtual recreation of the Star Trek world. It is a type of MUD (Multi User Dimension) that is programmed in a computer language known as Cold-C. In HoloTrek, you assume the role of a person, whether human or alien, and basically play out their life. You can generally do anything as a character that anyone in Star Trek can do within your character's bounds. For example, I play a character named Darien Harris. My char decided to join Stafleet, but had to go through the Academy first to complete training. After I graduated from the Academy, I was assigned to Spacedock (a large space station orbiting Earth), then got transferred to the USS Sagan, a deep space exploration vessel. I eventually got transferred again, but this time to Starfleet's flagship, the USS Reliant as the Chief of Security. Now, I'm the Executive officer (second in command) on the USS Reliant, at rank of Commander.

HoloTrek is quite an experience... for in it, you must RP or Role Play the character that you are controlling. Role Playing can be compared to reading a book... except your writing the words to it, that represent your character acting the words out. There are vitually no limits in HoloTrek as basically anything can be Role Played out. On HoloTrek, I've saved ships from warp core breaches, participated in Space Combat in the fully featured Space System, and gone up through the ranks in the mighty Starfleet.

Starfleet and the Federation are not your only options... you may be in one of many differant races in Star Trek, and join one of the orgs (organizations) that participate in HoloTrek. These orgs include Federation (UFP), Klingon Empire (KE), Romulan Star Empire (RSE), and Hellesport (HP), which is a free-trade commircial station that has alot of nifty things happen there. You can also be an  Indpendant (IND) and be whatever you want outside of the main orgs.

Another thing that makes HoloTrek a neat and extraordinarily fun place are things called TP, or Tiny Plots. These TPs are short story lines that characters play out... but the end that is decided by the person who writes the TP is not always the way it turns out. Like I stated before, the options and possabilities are virtually limitless on HoloTrek.
